Residents of Lisbon's city centre express security concerns

Lisbon, Sep 12 (EFE).- Residents of the central Mouraria neighbourhood in Lisbon, Portugal, are concerned about security.

Although the area is known for its beautiful atmosphere and architecture, residents are now calling for action to address security problems.

The Santa Maria Maior Municipal Board, which oversees the area, has reported problems such as theft, drug use and excessive noise. These problems are said to have worsened since the pandemic.

Although Lisbon describes itself as a'very safe’ city, the Junta considers Mouraria a ‘critical area’. Residents fear that the continuing problems are beginning to affect tourism. (Camera: CARLOTA CIUDAD).
