NORTH MACEDONIA HOLOCAUST

North Macedonia’s president participates in Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration in Skopje

Skopje, Apr. 14 (EFE).- North Macedonia’s President, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, lit six candles on Tuesday during Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, at the Holocaust Memorial Center for the Jews of North Macedonia.

The Holocaust Memorial Center, honoring the 7,148 Macedonian Jews who were murdered at the Nazi concentration camp in Treblinka in March 1943, was inaugurated in a ceremony on March 10, 2011.

Holocaust Remembrance Day, or Yom Hashoah in Hebrew, is observed in Israel on the 27th of Nisan, a month in the Jewish calendar that falls between April and May, and is marked by a ceremony in which six torches are lit in memory of the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis; this year, the ceremony will take place tomorrow, Wednesday.
