India mobilises over three million officials for census

New Delhi, Apr 1 (EFE/EPA).- India deploys more than three million officials on Wednesday to launch its first digital census, an unprecedented operation aimed at registering some 1.4 billion people following 15 years without updated statistics.

The process, named Census 2027, will include a self-enumeration portal in 16 languages and a phased data collection system, with the first stage running until September and focusing on housing and household conditions.

The second phase is scheduled for February 2027 and will include a nationwide caste-based enumeration, as authorities aim to improve data accuracy and guide public policy and resource allocation. (Camera: RAJAT GUPTA).
