Colombo (Sri Lanka), Sep 21 (EFE) - Sri Lanka awaits with a mixture of uncertainty and optimism the outcome of the presidential elections that the country held on Saturday, the most disputed in its short history with three candidates with options of victory, which will have the challenge of getting the island nation out of the serious economic crisis it is going through.

Accustomed to vote between two candidates who concentrated almost all the support of the electorate, the rise of a third alternative to the traditional parties aroused equal parts illusion and fear among the more than 17 million Sri Lankans called to participate in the elections on Saturday.
