Sahrawi people mark 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic
TINDOUF (Algeria), 09/04/2026.- Sahrawi refugees take part in a parade celebrating the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic in Aousserd in Tindouf South West of Algiers, Algeria, 09 April 2026. On 27 February 1976, the Sahrawi Republic was proclaimed in Bir Lahlou by the Polisario Front shortly after Spain's withdrawal. This proclamation affirmed the Sahrawi identity and desire for independence in the face of territorial claims by Morocco and Mauritania.
