PERU ELECTIONS

Tensions rise in Peru's elections after far-right candidate alleges fraud

Lima, Apr 14 (EFE).- Rafael López Aliaga, the far-right presidential candidate vying for a spot in the Peruvian election runoff announced Tuesday that he will not recognize any results, alleging fraud, without evidence, and calling on supporters to engage in "civil insurrection."

In a series of statements from the three candidates vying to be the challenger to right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori in the runoff, other contenders, centrist Jorge Nieto and leftist Roberto Sánchez, spoke out against López Aliaga's position and demanded that the votes be respected.
