VATICAN HOLY WEEK

The Pope denounces the brutality that keeps humanity 'kneeling' during the Mass of the Lord's Supper

Vatican City, April 2 (EFE).- Pope Leo XIV lamented this Thursday the existence of "a humanity on its knees because of so many examples of brutality" in his homily for the Mass of the Lord's Supper, which he celebrated at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, where he washed the feet of twelve Roman priests.

STATEMENTS BY POPE LEO XIV:

1) Therefore, faced with a humanity overwhelmed by so many examples of brutality, let us also prostrate ourselves as brothers and sisters of the oppressed. This is how we wish to follow the Lord's example, making real what we have heard in the Book of Exodus.

2) Jesus not only purifies us from the idolatries and blasphemies that have defiled the image we have formed of God, but he also purifies our image of humanity, which perceives itself as powerful when it dominates, which seeks to conquer by killing those who are its equals, which considers itself great when it is feared.

1) So then, in the face of a humanity overwhelmed by so many examples of brutality, let us also kneel as brothers and sisters of the oppressed. This is how we want to follow the example of the Lord, putting into practice what we have heard in the book of Exodus

2) Jesus not only purifies us from the idolatries and blasphemies that have defiled the image we have made of God, but He also purifies our image of man, which is perceived as powerful when it dominates, that wants to conquer by killing those who are equal to it, and that considers itself great when it is feared
