Pope calls on Cameroon’s leaders to examine their consciences and end corruption

Yaoundé, Apr. 15 (EFE).- On Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV called on Cameroon’s leaders to engage in “self-examination,” ensure “transparency in the management of resources,” and “break with corruption” in a speech delivered on the first day of his visit to the country during a ceremony at the presidential palace before Head of State Paul Biya, who, at 93 years old, has been in power for 43 years.

In a last-minute change, the pope delivered his speech at the presidential palace before Biya, marking the first event of his visit to Cameroon and the second leg of his African tour following his arrival from Algeria.
