Kolkata celebrates arrival of Bengali New Year

Kolkata, India, Apr 15 (EFE/EPA).- Bengalis celebrated the New Year on Wednesday with festivities marking Pohela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali calendar, in Kolkata.

The celebration is observed in West Bengal and across Bangladesh, as well as among Bengali communities in Assam and Tripura, and is considered an auspicious time to begin new businesses and ventures. (Camera: PIYAL ADHIKARY).
