JAPAN EQUAL PAY DAY

Gender wage gap remains high in Japan

Tokyo, Sep 17 (EFE/EPA).- Japan is highlighting the gender pay gap ahead of International Equal Pay Day on Tuesday.

A recent survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) showed that the wage level of women in Japan stood at 78.7 percent, compared to the OECD average of 88.6 percent.

The latest OECD data from 2023 revealed that the average wage of women in Japan was 22 percent lower than that of men.

This pay gap continues to affect the financial stability and career progression of women in the country.

International Equal Pay Day aims to raise awareness of this ongoing issue and encourage efforts to close the gender pay gap in Japan and around the world. (Camera: FRANCK ROBICHON).
