Siem Reap, Cambodia, Apr 5 (EFE).- The world’s first statue of a life-saving rat, a 2.2-meter tall depiction of landmine-detecting hero Magawa, has been unveiled in the Cambodian city of Siem Reap to coincide with the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on Saturday.

The African giant pouched rat was one of those trained by NGO APOPO to sniff out landmines in the country, finding more than 100 mines and explosives over his career, and becoming the first rat to receive the PDSA Gold Medal in 2020, the highest honor for animal bravery. He died at the old age of eight in 2022. (Camera: HANDOUT).
