Sahrawi people mark 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic

On 27 February 1976, the Sahrawi Republic was proclaimed in Bir Lahlou by the Polisario Front shortly after Spain's withdrawal. This proclamation affirmed the Sahrawi identity and desire for independence in the face of territorial claims by Morocco and Mauritania.
