USA IMF VENEZUELA

Cuerpo believes that the normalization of the IMF's relationship with Venezuela will be formalized in the coming days

Olivier Blanchard, senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (left); Carlos Cuerpo, First Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister of Economy (center); and Ángel Ubide, managing director of Citadel LLC (right), pose at the conclusion of the discussion “The Future Economic Architecture of the Eurozone” at the think tank’s headquarters in Washington, USA, 16 April 2026. The IMF suspended relations with Venezuela in 2019, and issues regarding institutional recognition hindered any support from the multilateral organization—a situation that could now change, potentially allowing Caracas access to multilateral financing instruments.
